MODERN SLAVERY STATEMENT

Introduction

This statement is made pursuant to Section 54 of the Modern Slavery Act 2015 and sets out the activities that Bucherer Group has taken during its financial year ending 31 December 2021 to mitigate potential risks of slavery, servitude, forced or compulsory labour and human trafficking (collectively “Modern Slavery”) in any part of its business or supply chain.

Bucherer – your jeweller for luxury watches and jewellery

Bucherer has one of the most distinguished traditions in Europe’s watch and jewellery industry. During a history that spans over 130 years, Bucherer has established an exclusive reputation for its range of exquisite jewellery and prize-winning creations. Bucherer’s head office remains in the Swiss city of Lucerne to this day, and the company employs almost 2,000 staff in seven different countries. The Bucherer Group runs over 100 Bucherer stores in Europe and North America.

A reputation for high standards and quality

We set ourselves high standards for quality and precision, and also apply these standards when selecting partners to collaborate with. We respect our agreements and are loyal to our commitments – both towards each other, our customers and partners. We take responsibility for our actions. 

Working conditions that are marked by respect are our top priority: This means we foster a working environment that is free from discrimination and harassment, and in which each person is treated equally, regardless of their sex, age, religion, ethnicity, sexual orientation, nationality or physical abilities. For us, this is a matter of course. In order to maintain this environment of trust, we implement efficient systems that we constantly improve, such as a whistle-blowing hotline and targeted training programmes. These measures enable us to create transparency within our company. In combination with suitable monitoring systems, we are able to ensure that Modern Slavery does not take place within our company or in any of the companies along our supply chain.

We work with reliable partners: Bucherer Fine Jewellery suppliers support the responsible sourcing of raw materials. The sourcing and/or use of materials that have been obtained with the aid of illegal, unethical or unacceptable methods is forbidden. The majority of our watch suppliers have published Modern Slavery transparency statements and/or are members of the Responsible Jewellery Council. 

We strive to act ethically in everything that we do: Our Code of Conduct and the Bucherer Integrity Line were rolled out in spring 2021 and have been implemented within the Bucherer Group over the past months. The use of raw materials such as conflict diamonds that are subject to embargoes or import restrictions is strictly prohibited. The Bucherer Group does not purchase gemstones or gold directly from mines. Most suppliers adhere to the principles set out by the World Jewellery Confederation (CIBJO) and its Blue Book and/or are members of the Responsible Jewellery Council.

We implement a detection system for infringements: The Bucherer Group is not aware of any instances of Modern Slavery within the company or the supply chain.

We will also be taking responsibility in the future: Bucherer will also take further steps to prevent Modern Slavery in the Group and improve transparency throughout its supply chain in the future. We are in progress of implementing our Code for Suppliers and Business Partners. This will allow us to execute due diligence measures in our supply chain more systematically.
